Proprietor, True Blue Gardenscapes
Born and raised in Vancouver, BC, Alyssa Dawn is the proprietor of a garden & design firm that has provided restorative gardening to clients since 2005. Gardening as nature intended, she is creative in her design approach to urban environments using principles of therapeutic horticulture.
Working individually with clients to grow with their garden and guiding organizations through the process to set up their own outdoor space, it is a lifelong goal to build these connections with people in a beneficial manner to health and well-being. Alyssa has been a member of the Canadian Horticultural Therapy Association’s Education Committee since 2011, a position of importance as her contribution to the development of Horticultural Therapy with utmost leadership, professionalism and access to resources.
Growing up in the forests and shorelines of BC and beyond, Alyssa creates a space to educate, learn and enjoy nature, providing continual support for urban living and sustaining the connection between people and plants.
If she is not gardening, you can find Alyssa Dawn exploring the path less traveled along forest and ocean trails, road-tripping around North America.
Fun fact: Alyssa also sings with the legendary Dawn Pemberton in Roots ‘n’ Wings Choir, travelling from Cuba to New Orleans to workshop with world class musicians, and is a dancehall dancer, training from the source on epic dance trips to the musical island of Jamaica.
Nature is my “true blue” as I’ve always been guided by my passion for my West Coast home.
“Deeply rooted in concepts of ecology and sustainable landscapes, it is with this understanding that I approach the garden.”
