Educational partnerships

A Horticultural Therapy Practitioner with Growing Eden and educator at the Grow Your Own Food course, both programs of Farmers on 57th, I specialize in sustainability and collaboration through community building, gardening and urban design elements that support healthy communities.

Farmers on 57th is a non-profit organization with programs in sustainable small-scale agriculture, community food growing and therapeutic gardening. We facilitate urban food security by empowering people to grow their own herbs, fruits and vegetables.

There is extensive evidence demonstrating the benefits of gardening to enhance the health and well-being of communities. With a commitment to food security, I support the engagement of hands-on and virtual opportunities to develop the knowledge and skills for people to grow, care for and harvest their own food.

Workshops

In partnership with various groups in Metro Vancouver, I offer educational workshops that grow confidence in starting one’s own food garden with a community of supportive leaders to nurture the excitement of the process through tending physical garden spaces from seedling to harvest, supplying the resources to create a resilient, food secure community.

There is an innate desire to learn and identify plants that are edible that brings pride and confidence in preparing food that they’ve grown and harvested. The sharing of culture and stories in the garden with recipes brings people together, strengthening the tapestry of the community.

Speaking engagements

I offer public speaking engagements on a variety of topics, including:

  • Elements of Therapeutic Garden Design
  • Food Secure Communities
  • Planting to Harvest
  • Garden Teas
  • Local Flora & Fauna
  • Labyrinths and the Healing Garden
